Have you noticed that when the battery in your clock starts to run down, the clock loses time? It begins to run more slowly. At first, the clock is only running a minute or two late – barely noticeable. Soon the clock loses more and more time until you have no choice but to replace the battery. We don’t have the option to replace our battery. Yet we are constantly busy. I’m busy managing my house, my family, and my business. I’m also busy with some volunteer work and other hobbies that I enjoy. I have to learn to rejuvenate and recharge my batteries!

What about you?

  • Do you wear many hats?
  • Do you work inside the home as well as outside?

We forget to stop, take a breath, and do something that we enjoy doing just for the pleasure of doing it.

  • Are you guilty of this?
  • Do you feel like you’re running on empty?

We must take the time to recharge our batteries, or we risk becoming so totally depleted that we don’t do anything as well as we want to. It’s vitally important to create time every day to relax and rejuvenate. Set aside a little time to unwind and do something just for you.

Careful Planning and Scheduling

How can we set aside time for ourselves and feel fine (not guilty) about it? There is always so much to do! I readily admit that I used to have a hard time doing this. However, I found that I’m not as effective as a professional organizer when I feel depleted or stretched to my limit. To do the best job possible, I have to be completely present and mindful with each one of my clients. So, I look at my calendar and plan time in my day, every day, to recharge.

Exercise

Something that works for me is an early morning walk. I accomplish several things by taking this walk. First, my dog and I get exercise – always a bonus!

Quiet Time to Think

Second, I mentally review what I want to accomplish during the day. Sometimes I have one of those light-bulb moments when a new way of tackling a challenge for a client occurs to me. For me, that’s really exciting!

Interests and Hobbies

Another way I like to rejuvenate is by spending time in my garden. If by chance, I have a free afternoon, I walk away from my desk and spend time weeding, clipping and admiring the plants in my garden. For me, it’s a wonderful way to let go of the many things on my mind. It allows me to open my mind to new thoughts and ideas.

List Ways to Rejuvenate

What will work for you? Well, think about the things you like to do. Make a list of these things. Then take a look at your daily schedule and see if you can tuck one or more of these things into your day. It doesn’t have to be every day. Do you like to sew or knit? Maybe you can spend a little time sewing or knitting in the evening. Is a long hot bubble bath missing from your day? Plan it in.

Multi-task

Normally I don’t recommend multi-tasking, but maybe there’s a group of women in your neighborhood who like to walk. Get together with them and schedule a time to walk and talk. That would be a time to enjoy fun socializing and a bonus – burn calories!

Figure out what works to rejuvenate and recharge your battery and then schedule it. I believe you’ll feel better, more in control of the other aspects of your life when your battery is recharged!
