Evernote & Productivity

Sometimes life can get overwhelming, especially if you’re managing multiple personal or business projects. It’s really helpful to have an easy way to capture everything that’s in your head. When it’s all out of your head and on paper or in your smart device, you’ll have an easy way to see exactly what you need to do and how to create a plan of attack.

If you like using paper (a notebook, planner pad, desk calendar, recipe book, etc.) to keep track of your projects and to do’s, keep using it. That old saying really does ring true – If it’s not broken, don’t fix it!  But, if you’re looking for a way to use technology and not be tethered to a notebook or journal, an online notebook, like Evernote, just might be the option for you.

Though you can use it like a traditional notebook, it’s a very flexible tool that can become in handy for just about any situation. And, because you have access to Evernote no matter where you are and all your data is synced across your PC, tablet, or smart mobile device, you’ll be able to stay on top of your projects even when away from your home or office.

Here are seven ways you can use Evernote to be productive and get things done:

Small Business Resource.  As a small business owner, I come across helpful information all the time, things that I want to refer to at a later date. Instead of printing out articles I want to read later, I can save the URL in Evernote for future reference. Not only can you save articles and photos, but you can also use Evernote as a digital tickler file (a reminder system to help you remember to get stuff done every day each month). It can also help remember the people you meet at networking events with the new feature, Evernote Hello. It’s an easy and simple way to keep track of the people you need to stay in touch with, and the contacts in Evernote Hello will be stored in your main Evernote account for easy access, too.

Track Your Time. You can use Evernote to track your daily activities and have a better sense of how you’re using your time. Getting this bird’s eye view of all that you (and how long it takes you to do them) can help you find ways to be more productive. Recording everything you do in a given day can be as simple as entering text in a specific notebook or just snapping a pic of what you’re doing at that moment. This will be easy to do whether you’re at home, in the office, or out and about since you’ll have access to your notebook where ever you go. No internet? That’s ok, too, since you can move and access whole notebooks offline (premium feature). So, no excuses!

Organize Your Travel Plans. Planning a trip can be tremendous fun and it can be a lot of information to remember, too.  As you surf the web and find interesting activities to do on your next vacation, use Evernote to store your itinerary, places to visit (along with maps), restaurants to check out, and even how to get to your hotel from the airport. You’ll be able to access all the info you need on your phone while you’re travelling (and you won’t need an extra bag for all the paper you would normally lug around).

So many ways to use Evernote to be more productive

Organize Your Recipes. So, maybe you’re so interested in saving business articles and recipes are more up your alley. No problem! …and no need to print them either. Save recipes you find online to Evernote (or upload a picture of that recipe your neighbor shared with you) until you’re ready to try them out yourself. When it’s time to put on your chef’s hat, use the recipe and instructions from your cell phone, tablet, or laptop.  If you decide that particular recipe is not for you, you can delete and not worry about a paper printout. But, if you love it, save it to your recipes notebook. And, if you’re more about eating than cooking, use Evernote food to remember all your food adventures.

Organize Your Events. Do you still use a binder to keep track of all your event details? Did you know that Evernote can help you with that? Create a notebook for your event and add a new note each of the things you need to focus on, like catering, décor, guest list, etc. And, if you come across a fabulous trend in a magazine, take a photo of it (instead of ripping out the page or buying the entire magazine) and add to your notebook. Simple, yes?

De-clutter Your Browser. If you find yourself keeping lots of browser tabs open, let Evernote come to your rescue. Trying to figure out which tab you need when you have more than ten of them open will become very frustrating (not to mention hard on tired eyes). Instead of cluttering your browser or bookmarking every page or article you’re interested in, clip the URL or a snippet form the page to one of your notebooks so you can refer to later on. You can tag it, too, so that when the time comes to read it, you’ll be able to find it easily.

Collaborate With Others. Sharing notebook is very easy to do with Evernote. This is a very handy feature when you’re working on a group project or even if you just want someone’s opinion. Upload and collaborate on documents instead of emailing back and forth. You’ll save some time and free up some space in your inbox.
