Autumn is governed by the element of METAL which is a cold and contracting energy associated with creativity, communication, inspiration and symbols. The emotion associated with metal is grief.

Because the yang energies are now weakening and the chi is now yin in nature, it is a perfect time to gather in your energy, reflect and slooooow down!

When Metal is balanced in people, their actions are filled with a sense of justice and ethics (taking action, speaking up) – pure ethical justice; projects are completed on time; and they’re surrounded by benefactors.

If folks have too little metal, they can be insecure, sad, distant, feel regretful, withdrawn; lack creativity, initiative or the ability to analyze what’s really going on.

If folks have too much metal, they can be self-righteous, emotionally cold, stingy, critical or try to “punish” others; feel nervous exhaustion, have scattered thinking, be busy for busy’s sake or be very disorganized.

On a mundane level, it’s a great season to harness the power of the Metal Element and both release what no longer serves and then open to new experiences.

  • Put attention on organizing finances, budgets, goals, and calendars
  • Finish incomplete projects, sort out your affairs
  • Practice breathing meditations to strengthen the lungs
  • Retire with the sunset and arise with the dawn
  • Eat warm, cooked foods
  • Let go of what’s no longer needed (on all levels) such as old ideas, habits, beliefs and attachments
  • Soak in warm mineral springs and drink mineral waters

In Feng Shui, we find the metal energy housed in two areas of the Bagua: the “Dui” or children and creativity area (in the far center right area of your home, business, desk or any room) representing children, joy, completion of projects, communication, symbols, creativity and inspiration; and the the “Chien” gua which governs benefactors, heavenly help and travel. This area is in the far lower right area of your home, business, desk or any room.

To enhance your creativity, communication, projects and welcome benefactors, you can do cures such as:

  • Hang metal wind-chimes outside on the eaves or inside your space and ring manually 9 times with your wishes and prayers
  • Use a water fountain with floating bells
  • Use white and gold together in your décor or outifts
  • Wear the colors gold, silver, bronze or copper jewelry; use it in your décor or paint colors
  • Keep a brass bell  on the creative area of your desk and ring it vigorously and joyfully when you need an energetic boost, creative idea or to help you stay on track
  • Carry metal amulets in your purse or pocket
  • Sprinkle Chinese Feng Shui coins liberally throughout your home and business
